We go in depth into factors to consider, such as current functional status, current housing features, social networks, what retirement communities offer, and financial considerations.
What Factors Go Into a Decision to Move to an Assisted Living Facility?
In “A Man on the Inside” with Ted Danson (Netflix), Danson goes into an assisted living facility in San Francisco to solve a case of missing jewelry. It does a great job of showing a beautiful environment and realistic friendships between the residents. It sort of leaves you with the feeling that it would be nice to not have to think about maintaining the structure of your home or not having to grocery shop.
Listen to the podcast as Dr. Matzo goes in depth into several factors. Ultimately the decision involves weighing pros and cons and going to where the best help is. When you decide it’s time to move, the most influential factors for both elders and family members are quality, cost, and location. Being proactive and starting before major health decline gives more time to be thorough and to select the right facility for you.
“We have the choice to be proactive in a move, and if we do, we have primary control over what happens.”
– Dr. Marianne Matzo

Recipe of the Week: Ann Sather Cinnamon Rolls

We travel to Illinois this week for our recipe, and land in Chicago. Ann Sather ran a diner for 35 years and was famous for made-from-scratch cinnamon rolls. Although she claims it is much easier to just come to the restaurant to eat them, you can make them in your very own kitchen with their recipe, so generously shared!
