How Do You Comfort a Dying Loved One?

When a loved one is dying, how do you offer comfort? SevenPonds blogger Rachel Jones sought out Marianne for her thoughts.

Marianne says would be ideal if people talked about it ahead of time, and had a sense of what they would like. (See our Five Wishes podcast for documenting wishes ahead of time.)

The article addressed several questions that many of our listeners may have:

  • What makes a good death?
  • When a loved one is dying, what can friends and family do to provide comfort?
  • Are there things that people should avoid doing or saying when their loved one is dying?
  • Are there other recommendations you would make for the environment (like music) to comfort the dying?
  • Have you witnessed any particularly touching rituals that might bring people comfort at the bedside of someone who’s dying?
  • What can people at the bedside do to care for themselves?
  • How important is pain management at the end of life?

Please head over to SevenPonds to read this beautiful summary of so much of what we have covered over the years at Everyone Dies.
